Summary of the Program
Lectures and workshops offered information on Gunma University’s IP training program as well as the Toolkit developed by the Centre for Research and Training on Interprofessional Education for other institutions to use as a checklist when introducing/improving IPE programs in their institutions. In a workshop, participants experienced simulated interprofessional training based on case scenarios. Additional lectures addressed related topics, such as the present situation of IPE in Asia and the challenges facing the WHO. Five guest lectures were offered during the training course. Two guest speakers from JIPWEN universities introduced their own IPE programs and provided participants with further hints for the development/improvement of IPE programs. A guest speaker from Takasaki University of Health and Welfare, the founding director of Gunma University WHO Collaborating Centre, talked about IPE and Patient Safety. A former participant in the 2016 program from Indonesia was invited to share her experiences of initiating IPE programs. Aside from these guest lectures, a special lecture on IPE in the context of UHC was organized in collaboration with JICA Partnership Project for Global Health and Universal Health Coverage Phase 2. Participants gave two presentations on the current situation of IPE and challenges in introducing/improving IPE in their institutions, and their action plans. An active discussion followed each presentation. Finally, an orientation was provided for research collaboration through the Asia Pacific IPE Research Network (AIR Network).
