Nursing Assistant Training Program as Part of Interprofessional Education

On November 11, 2025, we held a training program titled “Assistance with Bed Mobility and Wheelchair Transfers” in collaboration with the Nursing Department of Gunma University Hospital. This program was designed primarily for nursing assistants and was implemented as part of our interprofessional education initiatives, providing an opportunity for multiple professions to learn together and deepen their mutual understanding.

The training covered the basic procedures for assisting with bed mobility and transfers, practical approaches to managing urinary drainage bags and intravenous lines during transfers, and Hazard Prediction Training (KYT). Participants engaged in hands-on learning to enhance both knowledge and practical skills.

A key feature of this program was the opportunity for different professions to learn the same content together and develop a shared perspective and common language. Bed mobility and transfer assistance involve not only nursing assistants but also nurses and rehabilitation professionals. Sharing an understanding of body mechanics and assistance techniques helps promote clearer role recognition among professions and forms the foundation for providing consistent and safe patient care.

Furthermore, discussing hazard prediction from an interprofessional perspective contributes to fostering a culture of safety. By respecting each profession’s expertise and working collaboratively, we can advance the practice of high-quality team-based care.

We will continue to promote training programs that emphasize interprofessional education and directly support clinical practice.
