JIPWEN Symposium 2016 “New ways to promote IPE”

Background
 In order to contribute to better understanding of interprofessional education (IPE) in the context of overall transformative scaling up of health professional education, the WHO Collaborating Centre (the Centre) and JIPWEN have been organizing annual international symposiums in terms of IPE and Collaborative Practice.
 This year the Center invited two speakers, Professor Akinori Kama and Dr. Marion Helme. Professor Kama is former Liaison Officer for the Regional Director of WHO/SEARO and currently belongs to Gunma University. He has been working in the area of public health for more than 25 years. Dr. Marion Helme is Convenor of the World Coordinating Committee for IPE and collaborative practice (WCC www.atbh.org). She is an elected board member of CAIPE (Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education) and on the CAIPE Executive.

Summary in brief
 The Japan Interprofessional Working and Education Network (JIPWEN) Symposium was organized at Gunma University, Japan on 11 June 2016. Approximately 30 participants including JIPWEN members, educators and health workers learned new ways to promote IPE at the global level.
 First, Professor Akinori Kama had the presentation entitled “Challenge of the World Health Organization” (Photo 1). In the presentation Professor Kama explained the history, role and challenge of the World Health Organization, and provided a clue to expand the IPE initiatives to diverse educational setting in global society.
 Secondly, Dr. Marion Helme had the presentation entitled “Interprofessional Education and CAIPE: IPE in the UK (UK IPE Review)” (Photo 2). In the presentation Dr. Helme talked about i) CAIPE, ii) IPE as a global phenomenon, iii) IPE in the UK and iv) global support for IPE.
